Completed in 1436, the dome of the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence remains a remarkable feat of design and engineering. This was the first domed structure in the West since Haggia Sophia in Constantinople, and marks the recovery of building technology lost after the fall of Rome.

Both the magnificent dome of this
famous church and many other devices,
invented by Filippo the architect,
bear witness to his superb skill.

Therefore, in tribute to his exceptional talents,
a grateful country that will always remember
buries him here in the soil below.
